Mas Tortó

Tasting note:

Medium satured red; dark berry fruit flavours; light roasted aromas of plums, currant; some toasty coffee flavours;  lots of red and dark berry flavours in taste; complex but fine; very sofisticated style; intense seroius fruit character; powerful but elegant; serious sweet tannins; complex and mineral; nice freshness and very good length

Food pairing: 

Roasted lamb chops, goat, beef, duck, game (partridge, quail, rabbit); stews, casseroles, grilled vegetable, cheeses, Sirloin, oxtrail

Grape varieties: 

• 70% Garnache
• 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
• 10% Merlot
• 10% Syrah

temperature controlled fermentation (27-29ºC; indegenous yeast)
varieties were vinified partly separately, partly blended in stainless steel tanks adn open barrels
mazeration: 18-30 days
malolactic fermentation started in tank and finished in barrel
not cold stabilized, light filtration
no finning

12month aged in new and one year mainly french oak barrels (228l); Allier and Never
Light and medium toasted
after blending aged for 3 months in tank before bottling

  • Mas Tortó 2011, 93p: Sugestivo, con nervio. Fino carácter frutal (frutas rojas, flores azules) ensalzado por la crianza, tonos balsámicos. Potente, consistente, fresco, sabroso, amplio.

  • Mas Tortó 2010, 94p: Andreas Larsson, fresh nose of dark berries, herbs, liquorices, kirsch and subtle oak, very good grip on the palate, juicy and fresh with a bright acidity, layers of dark fruit, nice cassis flavors, well integrated oak, grainy tannin and a very good length. Markus Del Monego, dark purple red with violet hue and black centre. Elegant but expressive nose, mature fruit, discreet spiyness and hints of minerality. On the palate well structured with good weight and length, almost sweet tannins.

Full-bodied and juicy on the palate, ripe, creamy, partly preserved and candied fruit, some oak and chocolate, delicate acid bite, very ripe, silky tannins, persistent, appealing style, already deceptively approachable, although the wine does not yet reveal its full potential, firm core, has some depth, very good finish.
